I'm going to start posting some of the sequential pages I haven't had a chance to upload here before. Some are of course better than others. Many of you may have seen these before if so please bare with me;) I'll start with some of the oldest, here are some Spidey pages from a few years ago: and just for good fun here's a recent commission I did; I'm still doing commission so feel free to drop me a line if your interested.
Well Mega con has come and past, I don't have time to do a full post right now but here are two pieces from the weekend. EDIT: I've replaced the original photo cover with the finished cover.
a Christmas gift and and birthday gift this time. Mon, Feb. 2nd, 2009, 05:47 pm x-men cards
I did a few x-men sketch cards for my buddy Greg Vondruska 2009 has been pretty rough so far, my hours got cut in half and I've totaled my car. Thankfully I was alright and I've gotten a replacement vehicle but that entails a new monthly payment at a most inopportune time. So now all I have to do is find a roommate and get enough freelance to fill in the gaps... or find something else entirely.
This was actually one of Steve's Christmas presents. In loving memory of Dave and Betty of course, RIP. Mon, Dec. 15th, 2008, 11:01 pm
I've had this one lying around for a while, so I thought I would post it. Still taking commissions, I've done a few already and I'm working on some now. I appreciate everyone willing to separate themselves with their hard earned money to help me live and print new books. My hours at work where recently cut by half so every little bit is going to help me make rent and get new books out. On a side note, Eugene will be resuming in another week's time, Steve was out of town and I was too buys and lacking web time to update it. The strips are done, the just need formatted and updated. Fri, Aug. 8th, 2008, 03:15 am Fishnets
OK so It's more or less unanimous, it's not Zatana without the fishnets. I've also thrown in the original pencils and an old sketch from a year ago just for fun. Thanks for all the input, you guys rock. Tue, Aug. 5th, 2008, 09:43 pm B-Day Illo
Did this mixed media piece for my buddy Nick on his birthday. I really enjoyed the process and it reminds me I need to do colour more often. Also my Buddy Justin Jordan has a really cool comic called "Junk" up at Zuda comics, go read and vote for it! http://www.zudacomics.com/node/473 Mon, Jul. 14th, 2008, 03:30 pm
Some of the Tampa boys made it into town last weekend! It was great to see Dan, Keath, Mike, and the two Jens. They came down because Uberbot put on a Hellboy themed art show with a bunch of local artist, including my buddies Joel, Hugo, Ron, Phil and many more… oh yeah and me! It’s still for sale if anybody’s interested. If you’re in town stop by the shop and check out all the cool art, or if you don’t want to face the mean streets of Winter Park just go to their website. Thanks again to Steve and Sandra for putting it all together. Speeking of Hellboy saw the new movie Sunday… fun, liked it… not sure really what it was about though… definitely not Hellboy. I find it kind of weird and sad that Pan’s Labyrinth felt more like a Mignola comic than either of the Hellboy movies. ALSO!
Plucky investigative-literary reporter, Erin Wiedemer, was recently highlighted on the Neil Gaiman blog, thus raising the Wiedemer clan’s cognomen above the usual lowbrow milieu with which we are associated. Good job! And just to throw my useless two cents in... I actually don’t think age banding is necessarily top-priority within the overall creator’s rights agenda. Though I generally fall under the assumption that the more “say” a creator has over their final product the better. However, as creators we should probably be a little wiser in choosing our battles. Slapping a small and innocuous age recommendation on the back of a book, near the UPC code, may ultimately be a better than worse solution for both the industry and creator. Putting large book companies in a position where they are unable to identify books with slightly headier content might make them too risk-deterred. Thus turning the bookstore’s youth section as milquetoast as the average paper’s comic section. Age-bands (and warning labels in general) essentially give industries plausible deniability in our ever increasingly litigative society. The bigger the company is, the bigger the target they are for itchy parental watchdogs and perpetual victims and their sue-happy, leeches. Some authors’ worry that having a suggested age on a book might affect their sales, I wouldn’t count on any long-term damage as a result. There are far too many greater cancers attacking the body of literature than to worry extensively about this minor cold. Age/content notifications are generally ignored by consumers and usually help ward off the much more insidious “Industry Wide Standards and Practices ” or “Codes of Authority.” Sat, Jun. 14th, 2008, 03:01 pm DE SUPERMAN!
Wow my first post for this year... I suck! I've been doing freelance and material I can't post yet, so that's sort of my excuse. But I couldn't pass up doing a Superman redesign for Project Roof TopI love drawing Supes and family, He's so much fun. Here are some older ones I haven't shared yet. Well Good luck to everyone else who's submitted to the contest, from what I've seen they all rock! Happy 70th Clark
Two more, I had a few others but I'm not wild about the inks and they're not scanned in yet.... A Mahnke Frankenstein, with a little bit a of Karloff flavoring... go pick up Draw! issue 14 if you haven't already. It's got a lot of great stuff in it, Including a sizable interview with Doug. Zatana's sorta Halloweenish, right? I had hoped to play around with colours for both of these, but alas there is no time. Stay safe tonight kids, don't forget to wear flame retardant asbestos costumes. And stay away from those weird cloaked figures, that chant around your schools infield.
I've been doing a few Spooky sketches (tis the season and all) Here's two: I always hated Vampirella as a character, But going back and looking at some of the old Warren stuff, she's won me over a little bit... Yes I'm saying the fact that she's an alien vampire, from a planet in which blood flows like water, is an improvement for me. Tue, Oct. 16th, 2007, 02:27 am
SPX was Great! Also very exhausting and very expensive. Ed and Joel put up with my crap, with which I'm thankful and I got to see a bunch of old friends and met some new ones. Getting there and getting back where both incredibly difficult. Any little thing that could go wrong did, but non of the major things that could go wrong happened,we all made it safe and sound. Didn't draw as much as I would like while I was there, but here's one of the few things I did do. Anyhow thanks again to everyone I met there, your all fun and interesting people. |
